Zamek Św. Barbary

Santa Bárbara Castle

Castle of St. Barbary is a medieval stronghold that is the flagship of Alicante. The building was erected on the top of Monte Benacantil hill above the city. Castillo de Santa Barbara is divided into three parts that represent different eras. You can get to the hill from one of several hiking trails or use the fast elevator, which will take us directly to the castle walls. The cost of the lift is 2.4 € one way. From the top you have a beautiful view of the city, the port and the Mediterranean Sea. There is also a café and a restaurant serving local delicacies. Climbing will reward both the beautiful panorama and the opportunity to admire the wonders of medieval Spanish defensive architecture.

Explanada de España

Explanada de España is undoubtedly the most popular walking alley of Alicante. The street runs along the coast, providing a beautiful view of the Costa Blanca. It is worth knowing that more than 6 million three-colored cubes arranged in wavy patterns were used to build the avenue. On the Avenue of Explanada de España grow up four rows of tall palm trees, which provide a great climate during walks, sheltering from the intense sun and allowing for the creation of exceptional photographs. We recommend starting your trip to Alicante with Mercado, then Rambla de Méndez Núñez, until you reach the square in the center of the Plaza del portal de Elche and continue along the Bouanada de España Avenue.

San Francisco Street is a remarkable street in the center of Alicante, which by residents is called “Mushroom Street” – Calle de Las Setas. As the name suggests, the city’s authorities decorated San Francisco Street with tall, cheerful and colorful mushrooms and snails. Walk Calle de las Setas is a great attraction for both children and adults. Parameter mushrooms make an impression, and the colorful cube paved with San Francisco Street and the narrowly built tenements maximize an unforgettable impression. We encourage you to visit Calle de Las Setas especially in the afternoon and evening, when the setting sun and street lighting will create an additional aura of light.

Are you interested in the fastest, every three years regatta around the world? Be sure to visit the Volvo Ocean Race Museum. What would be a great Costa Blanca without beautiful sandy beaches? One of the most popular is the suburban beach of San Juan and Muchavista. The beach is located a few kilometers from Alicante. Beach lovers will fall in love with this nearly 10 km wide beach lined with tiny white sand. There are beach volleyball courts, many attractions for children, as well as a palm promenade for walkers and runners for all thirsty sports events. To get to the beach of San Juan and Muchavista, take the tram line L-3 from Alicante and after about 20 minutes drive get off at one of the stops Costa Blanca, Carabiners or Muchavista.

Elche is a city with the largest palm grove in the world. In 2000, Elche was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The village is filled with beautiful palm trees with spreading crowns, and the oldest palm trees grow in Huerto del Cura. Elche also offers the opportunity to visit the beautiful Altamira palace, the Arab Baths and the Basilica. Arab architects who have constructed a network of drainage channels have contributed to the construction of Elche. Elche is located approx. 25 km from Alicante. To get there, all you need is to take one of the lines going from the center of Alicante and after about 25 minutes drive get off at the center of Elche.
